Filtered Lookup and Datasheet views

Mar 11, 2010 at 12:59 AM

I have setup a column using the filtered lookup field. Everything works great except the column doesn't show up at all in datasheet views. It is as if the column doesn't even exist. Any ideas why?

quick upate:i tested using a client running Office 2007 and the datasheet view worked fine. (my previous tests were on Office 2003). However i have the same problem mentioned by other people namely the fields are read-only. In addition the items IDs show up before the items. Any solutions?

Is it possible to get an answer in regards to Datasheet views being read-only? I would like to know if this is by design or if there is something wrong with my setup. I would appreciate an answer by anyone who is using this solution and can run a quick test. thanks

Hi,

I'm dealing with the same issue too and I couldn't find a solution or answer on discussion list or issue tracker list.

Any help or answer?

I did an exhaustive research of existing solutions for filtered lookup - there are maybe half a dozen of them (a couple free, the rest for purchase). I downloaded evaluations for all of them and they all had the same problem. Of course the paid solutions had tech support so I contacted them and they all said that Microsoft restricts datasheet views and it is impossible to get it working etc...

so I contracted a developer that did it for me and works like a charm! He implemented it creating a calculated column using an IF statement and probably some under-the-hood coding, so it is probably a different approach which is why it works. But the bottom line is that it is doable.

hope this helps.

Criskrit, since you tried many different solutions, would you mind telling us which one did you find to be the most reliable? Or better for any specific reason? Prefarably from among the free ones. This is the only one I found...

Thanks in advance.

here is a list of the ones I found, some of them do cross-site lookup and/or cascading lookup. But like I said none of them really worked on datasheet view.

Regarding the filtered lookup column being read only in datasheet view - I am experiencing the same thing.  I assume it is by design so that ONLY data from the looked up list could be inserted into the column. Otherwise perhaps it wold be possible to copy any data into the column while in datasheet view?
